Hello Readers,
Yesterday, as a whole class, we reviewed how to write a summary for a piece of fiction. Today, I would like you to re-read a story from our 4th grade anthology. Then, using the summary we did together as a model, write a summary of the story that you read.
1.) Re-read a story from the 4th grade anthology.
2.) Complete steps 1-3 on the summary planning sheet provided. It is probably easier to use the back of the paper to complete step 3.
3.) Complete step 4 on the blog, which is the writing of the actual summary. As always, write your post in Open Office, save it, and then post it.
I am looking forward to seeing summaries that include the maid ideas of the selection, and that also use transitions (next, finally, later, etc.).

ReplyDeleteTomas and the library lady By Pat Mora talks about a kid that knows all of his grandpa's stories and the kid Tomas goes to the library then tells stories about Tigers and Dinosaurs.First,Tomas leaves his Texas farm and goes to Iowa to help Iowa farmers.Second, Tomas and his brother help the family by bringing water to them and then they can play.Next,they go to their papa Grande to listen but sense Tomas know papa's story's he goes to the library to get stories.Then, when he there he got new books and his good friend the library lady hung out and read books while Tomas was teaching her her some spanish.Then, he went home and read more stories to his family.Finnaly,he goes there with his grandpa to give her some sweet bread and she gives Tomas a book for him to keep at home.

Next,his lungs get filled with bad air from making the hats.After that,he goes west so his lungs get better. Then,some people asked if he want's to go to Pikes Peaks to find gold and he does.Then, the men start to say how they want to a tent.So he makes one. Finally,his lungs get better and he misses making a hat so he makes different hat.Then, one day a man buys that hat.Next,John decide to make more of the same hat.He waits for some people to buy his new hat. After, a while people
bought his.The hat was very usally.John hat was very famous.I love this book.

ReplyDeleteGrandfather's Journey,By Allen Say,talks about how grandfather moves to California from Japan. First,grandfather leaves his home in Japan on a steamship to see the world. For three weeks he did not see land. Second,he explored North America by train and riverboat. He saw rocks that bewildered him.Third,he marveled at towering mountains and rivers as clear as the sky. The more he traveled ,the more he longed to see more. After,he moved back to marry his childhood sweetheart and had a baby girl. As his daughter grew grandfather started to think about his childhood. Finally,his daughter was almost grown so he took his family back to Japan. And Allen's mother got married to Allen's father,and later Allen was born. Allen went through the same things as his grandfather and ended up in California. And that is my summary of Grandfather's Journey.

ReplyDeleteI think that Leigh might get to meet Mr.Hensaw in person.Maybe he might or might not get know who has been stealing his lunch.Maybe it someone who don't have a good lunch.Maybe Leigh's dad comes to Leigh's house and is with his dog Bandit.I think Leigh will feel happy to see his dad and his dog but a little up upset.That's what I think will happen in the book.

ReplyDeleteI have read a book called Tanya's reunion by Valerie Flournoy and this is what it is about.
First,Tanya's grandma get to go to the reunion before the family so Tanya asked if she could go so her grandma says yes.Next,Tanya goes to the barn by a bus with her grandma.Later,they get there and the barn was not what she had expected the paint was not new and there was no animals.Soon she meets her cousins Keisha who is seven years old and baby Adam.Later Tanya finds a wooden piece that has these inishals R.B& I.F witch were here grandma's inishals and her grandpa's inishals.I think Tanya felt felt happy and a little disapointed in the end.

ReplyDeleteTanya's Reunion by Valerie Flournoy tells about Tanya's reunion. It was Saturday baking day. Grandma announced that she got a card from Aunt Kay and Uncle John. So then Tanya goes with her grandma to her aunt and uncles house. When she gets there Tanya feels a little nervous because she expected a farm and she does not see any animals. When she gets there she is also tired. She did not now anyone there and she feels a bit unwelcome. Tanya did not like the fly strip that was dangling over there heads when they are eating. Tanya goes to the memory room and she sees all the things her family had. She gets filled with pride. Tanya and her cousin went outside to pick some fruits. Finally, Tanya finds a piece of wood and it says R.B.+I.F. and she brings it to her aunt Kay's house.Then, Tanya
and her cousin went out to the front porch with their sleeping bags and pretended that they were out camping. She felt happy at the end because she found all these cool things.

ReplyDeleteTanyas reunion by ValerieFlournoy is about a little girl who goes to a family reunion.First, one morning Tanya's grandma says she is going to a family reunion.Tanya wants to go.Grandma says ok. Tanya goes to the reunion but when she gets there she does not find what she exspexts.Next, she wants to go home. She goes to sleep.Then she wakes up the next morning and she sees the memories she doesent no what to think. She relizes the farm is not so bad after all.She goes and picks up apelles.But she findes a piese of wood that has writing on it.
Here grandma tells here to put it where the memories are.She puts the piese of wood where her grandma told her.They have diner.They go home the next morning. .
